JOHN (YOUNG) ALLGOOD
According to the book "The History of Elbert County, Georgia, 1790-1935, page 344 and 345,
John Allgood was born May 12, 1751 in Richmond County, Virginia.
According to that source and some sources on line, his parents names were not known. According to other sources on line,
his parents were William and Mary Anne Hames Allgood.
He married, about 1780 in Virginia to Sarah "Sally" Willis. They had six children, Edward, Nancy Elizabeth, William A., Samuel Young, Ann and Asa, between 1780 and 1800.
Moved to Elbert County and then Walton County.
John died Jan 18, 1839 in Walton County, Georgia and is buried at the Allgood Family Cemetery near Walnut Grove, Georgia.

Allgood (William Algood, Edward Allgood, William, Edward Algood) was born in North Farnham
Parish, VA May 12, 1751. John died January 18, 1839 in Walton Co, GA.
He
married Sarah (Sally) Willis ABT 1780. Sarah was the daughter of William Willis
and Sarah (____). Sarah (Willis) Allgood's mother, Mary (Pulliam) Willis,
married Captain Howel Rose in Granville County, North Carolina in 1795 after her
father, William Willis, died in 1793. Sally (Willis) Allgood and her siblings
instituted a law suit against Captain Howel Rose and Mary (Pulliam) Willis Rose
in 1805. The Allgoods were living in Elbert County, Georgia at that point:
"Know all men by these presents that we, John Allgood and Sarah Allgood of Elbert County, State of Georgia, do appoint Robert Burton of Mecklenburg County, State of Virginia, our lawful attorney to sue for, recover, and to receive all that is due us from the estate of William Willis, deceased, of Mecklenburg County, as our proportionate part of said estate both real and personal." John Allgood was the founder of the Allgood family in Georgia. In 1778, he was drafted for service in the Revolutionary army, serving under Captain William Lucas. He was marched from Mecklenburg to Portsmouth, Virginia. Ten days later, the order was rescinded and he was discharged. Later in 1778, John Allgood was again drafted to go from Mecklenburg county to Portsmouth, under the command of Captain William Pinter. According to Allgood's later recollections, he was gone about fourteen or fifteen days. About 1 January 1781, he was drafted under the Virginia State Troops commanded by General Muhlenburg, Colonel Fleming, Major Ben Jones, Sergeant Richard Easter and Ensign John Bebel. Under this command, he marched through Brunswick and Surry Counties to Cabin Point, when he guarded for two months. After that, he marched to Portsmouth, up the Nansemond River.
On 5 April 1781, he became ill
and was discharged. He returned to his plantation in Mecklenburg County. On 1
August 1781, he was again drafted, this time under Captain Killis Jeffries,
Colonel Lewis Burwell, and Colonel Walker. He marched to Petersburg. In October
of 1781, he was discharged and returned home. In 1788, John Allgood, his wife,
children and slaves moved to Elbert County, Georgia, where he established a
plantation. In 1794, he acquired an additional 100 acres on Wahacha Creek. In
the 1806 Georgia Land Lottery, John Allgood received two tracts of land and in
1821 received a tract of land located in Walton County, Georgia. John Allgood
settled in Walton County. In 1811, John Allgood was in Lowndes County,
Mississippi. In 1833, John Allgood applied for a pension for his services in the
American Revolution.
