Ever heard of Trip, Ga.?  Well, at age 89 Mr. Alden L. Geiger of Loganville remembers Trip well, because he was born there.

"Trip," he says "is called Grayson now.  I was about 10 or 12 when the name was change to Grayson.  I don't know why they changed it.  I had heard all my life that it was called Trip because an old man there had a dog named Trip."

Mr. Geiger, the son of the late James L. Geiger and the late Mary Hopie Carroll, lived 88 years on the Bay Creek Road in Loganville.  He farmed from the age of six, when he picked 66 pounds of cotton in one day, until he was 70.  At one time he owned 165 acres of land and raised everything he ate.

During these years he also worked as principal and teacher of various schools in the county.  Following graduation from the old frame building in Loganville, he attended the State Normal School in Athens for one fall term.  Then he was principal at Windsor for eleven years, followed by four years at Piney Grove, five years at Double Springs, one year at Walker Bennett and five years at Oak Grove.

At age 70 he quit farming because of his wife's heath.  She was the late Mary Cooper of Monroe.

"We never had any children, but I have about 22 or 23 nieces and nephews who I really think a lot of:, he says.  "I also have one brother Abe Geiger of Bay Creek and two sisters, Ruby Boss of Loganville and Mary Reeves of Dacula".

Mr. Geiger says his early ancestors came from Germany.  "That's where the name Geiger comes from.  My other two names are interesting, too.  Alden is English and I think I was named for John Alden.  Lafayette is French and I was named for the soldier."

"I want to be friends with everyone," he says, "I don't hold anything against anybody in this world and that's from my heart.  If everyone did like the bible says and loved each other, we wouldn't need that court house over there."
