Kind Sir,

We ware pleased that you didnot neglect writing us.  Notwithstanding our seeming remissness, we are always glad to heer from you & more so now as you are so far from home though not from friends.  You have some warm harted friends in Habersham who are anticipating a greatdeal of pleasure on your return.  We heer tidings of peace if true we will expect you next fall provided you don't fall in love with one of those butiful creatures you speek of.  I have heard some complaints among the young ladies all reddy about your praise of the Mexican ladies  they threaten to write you a letter so you may look out.  I saw Salena yesterday & she is not the little girl you left but a young lady & quite good looking.  The young ladies say very much like her brother H.P.    (note:  Salena was my gr gr grandmother, Mary Salena (Dorsey) Jarrard & H.P. is Hilliard P. Dorsey to whom this letter was written)

I expect to visit your Mother to morrow & enjoy my self finely as I always do.  (note:  Mother was Nancy Smith Dorsey, wife of Andrew Dorsey)  We prise the little coin you sent us verry highly & will keep it in remembrence of the absent.  Hope you will write frequent and give us sketches of the curiosity of the country.

Many of your friends wish to be remembered by you.  Accept of the best wishes of your sincear friend,

                                                               Rosella Starr
