Volunteers enlisted in Cherokee County NC for local defense of the Carolinas, East Tennessee, SW Virginia and the Cumberland Mountains in Kentucky. Beaver Dam, Cherokee Co NC, 7-18-1862. Muster in July 18, 1862. Description: 35 years old, 5'10", fair complexion, yellow eyes, light hair. Occupation: miner. Born Rabun County GA. Residence Poke County TN (my notes: Polk Co?). Enlisted Oct 10. 186- by C C Berry for 3 years.

Mrs. Mary McDougal, widow of Wm R McDougal. Company A, Thomas Legion, TN Vols. Indigent Widows Pension for year ending December 31st, 1906 Authorizes Jos Bogle, Ordinary of Dalton GA 13 Jan 1906 and 5 Jan 1907.
Mary McDougal, who being sworn on oath that she is a bonafide resident of County of Whitfield, State of Georgia and that she has resided resident of County of Whitfield, State of Georgia and that she has resided in said state continuously ever since 1820. That she is a widow of Wm R McDougal who was a soldier in Company A, Thomas Legion, Regiment of NC Volunteers, that he enlisted in said Regiment on or about the month of Oct 1862 and served in the Army up to 1864. That he died 16 May 1890. Deponent swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier, during his service in the Army as a soldier, and that she has never married since his death aforesaid and that she became his wife in the year 1845. I have been allowed an Indigent pension as a resident of Whitfield (crossed out and Murray written in) County under Act 1900 for the year 1905 and now apply for the pension provided by law for the year ending Dec 31, 1906.
