From the Columbus Dailey Enquirer, 15 Apr 1893; from the Dalton Citizen:

Granny Tillman, the oldest person in Whitfield County, died last Thursday, at the residence of Mr John M Lowry about 2-1/2 miles east of town.  She was past ninety years of age and up to within a few days of her death, which was the result of an injury sustained in falling from a chair, she has enjoyed excellent health and remarkably strong and vigorous for a person of her advanced age frequently walking long distances to the neighbors houses without fatigue.  Mrs Tillman was quite familiar with the early history of Georgia and Tennessee and had a large store of interesting reminiscences of gone times.  She had often heard the famous Merrill preach, the noted outlaw who was for many years the terror of the mountain country of Tennessee and Georgia.
