Mr. Luke, 86, Ben Hill native, dies April 17
Louis Luke, 86, of Rt. 3, died Wednesday, April 17, 1991 at
Life Care Center in Fitzgerald. Funeral services were
held Saturday, April 20, at Abba Baptist Church in Ben Hill County with
the Revs. Howard Kitchens, Horace Holcomb
and Larry Clements officiating. Interment was in Luke Cemetery.
Pianist was Peggy Harper, and soloist was Skippy Mulkey.
Pallbearers were M. D. Brown, Scott Shealey, Chris Harper,
Buddy Gentry, Bobby Clements, Johnny Luke, Davy Clements, Billy Luke,
Robby CLements, Jeff Rinear,and Wayne Reeves.
Honarary pallbearers were deacons of Abba Baptist Church.
Mr. Luke was born on January 26, 1905, in Ben Hill County to
David Zachariah and Betsey Ann Tomberlin Luke. He was a
member of Abba Baptist Church for 65 years and also a Mason, past
worshipful master and O. E. S. A farmer, he had
lived in the community all of his life.
Survivors include: his wife, Thelma W. Luke of Fitzgerald; two
sons, Gene Luke of Fitzgearld and Jimmy Luke of Raleigh,
N.C.; three daughters, Nita Clements of Rebecca, Lillian Cleghorn of
Plymouth, Fla., and Arbie Palmer of Fitzgerald;
one brother, Weldon Luke of Fitzgerald; one sister, Martha Jane Gentry
of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren, and 10
great-grandchildren.
