William Palmer, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, October 13,
2016, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 5 PM, Sunday, October 16, 2016, at The
Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with
the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Luke
Cemetery, in Irwin County. The family will receive
friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at the funeral home in
Fitzgerald.
Mr. Palmer was born June 9, 1927, in Itawamba County, Mississippi, to
the late William W. & Zera Shots Palmer. He moved
to the community from Florida in 1974 and was a former employee of Deep
South, Minute Maid, a division of Coca-Cola,
Paulk Implements and Miller Brewing Company. Mr. Palmer served
honorably in the United States Army during the Korean
Conflict. He was a Mason and he enjoyed woodworking and square dancing.
Mr. Palmer was a member of Crossview Baptist
Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Arbie Luke Palmer of
Fitzgerald; three sisters: Nellie Barnes of Arkansas, Bertha
Carpenter of Mississippi and Jean Hancock of Mississippi; a brother:
Hollis Palmer of Alabama; In-laws: Juanita Clements
of Ocilla, Lillian Cleghorn of Plymouth, Florida, Gene & Betsy
Luke of Fitzgerald and Jimmy & Anita Luke of Benson, North
Carolina. Several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews also
survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by three brothers.
