Baptist Ministers of Bethel Association 1833-1932
Source: Donna Eldridge
The Bethel Association and its History could not have existed had it not been for the great men, the Ministers of the Gospel in God's plan, who carried on
this work from the beginning until the present. And it is these men whose lives have been an example and whose activities in the organization of the churches
and the preaching of the Gospel have been a light by night and a pillow of cloud by day, leading the people in the right direction and pointing them the way
of Eternal Life, whose names we now wish to commemorate and whose lives we wish to honor as their names are here recorded. The names of the ministers appearing
in the Bethel Association are those who on Saturday, November 23rd. 1833 met at Richland Church, Stewart County, and there organized this great Association:
Andrew Hood, Anderson Smith, Joseph Ross, and Brother Stewart.
The Ministers who were the first pastors of the churches of the new Association at and from its organization were John Rushing, Cater A. Parker, Peter
Eldridge, Henry Dykes, Joshua Mercer and Travis Everitt. These were the men who were entrusted with the building and the moulding of this, the Bethel
Association in the beginning.
Those who served with the above named and who soon afterwards came into the Association prior to 1848 and those who continued to come and serve are herewith
given: J. S. Lunsford, J. J. Battle, Jonathan Davis, S. English, S. Mauk, L. Lunder, B. Goss, R. Y. Loftin, J. Strafford, J. Lumpkin, Thomas Muse, John G.
