Transcribers’ notes:

A large portion of the area William Ellis surveyed in 1821 is now 3rd District Spalding County.  At this time, he was also holding the position of Surveyor of Oglethorpe County, GA; we have found evidence of appointment to the Oglethorpe position in 1820, 1822, 1824 (2-year terms).  When Spalding County was formed, he held the position of first Surveyor of Spalding County.
