Welcome to the Telfair County, GAGenWeb site!

Note from your County Coordinator: I do not live in Telfair County, but I will be happy to try to direct you in yourMap showing Telfair's location research. Your submissions for this web site are always welcome.

Telfair County was organized from Wilkinson County in 1807. Its county seat is McRae although Jacksonville served as its first seat of government. Marriage records date to 1810; land records to 1809; probate records to 1831; and court records to 1810. The county was named for Edward Telfair (1735-1807) who served as governor of the state.

Telfair County once included portions of present-day Laurens, Wheeler, Dodge, Coffee, and Jeff Davis Counties.
