Isabella, Georgia, 1861
Capt. William A. Harris-Dear Friend: In this little note you will find five dollars, of which I hope you will accept for the benefit of yourself and your gallant little company which I think will never back from any noise whatever. As I am not old enough to go, that does not hinder me from wanting to go. I lack nearly four years of being old enough but if I was sixteen, I should go if I had to pay expenses every step of the way to Virginia. I am a well wisher if I cannot go myself. So by accepting of this money you will oblige your friend until death separates us,
WM. J. FORD
Also, if I had ten thousand dollars I would distribute it out amongst your gallant band.
Your Friend,
W. J. F.
